Overview

ZONEA is a smart access solution that connects physical entry hardware with software for managing access rights, visits and occupancy. The system is designed for facilities where access needs to be secure, automated and measurable.

The platform integrates entrance gates, readers, RFID cards, QR codes and mobile-based access with a central software layer. It can be applied in environments such as fitness and wellness facilities, schools, institutions, workplaces and other controlled premises.

Key capabilities

  • automated entry for members, employees and visitors
  • access using cards, QR codes or mobile devices
  • real-time occupancy information
  • visit history and utilization analysis
  • capacity limits and occupancy alerts
  • support for evacuation overviews
  • integration with external systems through an API
  • centralized management of access permissions

Technical focus

The project combines several areas that are especially interesting from a software-engineering perspective: reliable communication with access-control hardware, event processing, backend services, persistent data storage, user authorization and integration with external systems.

My work on ZONEA has included the architecture and development of software components that connect physical access devices with backend services and operational applications. A major focus is reliability: access-control infrastructure must continue to behave predictably even when network connections are interrupted or hardware temporarily becomes unavailable.

Current development

Recent development includes containerized deployment, communication with access-control devices, monitoring and reconnect logic, embedded display integration, and preparation of systems for unattended operation on compact edge-computing hardware.
